Regardless of where your opinion lies on the debate over Steven Moffat borrowing ideas from the Doctor Who comic canon, there’s no denying that there is something eerily familiar in this new shot from series seven finale, The Name of the Doctor.
The composition is very similar to the iconic image of the Seventh Doctor cradling a stricken Ace in the DWM serial, Ground Zero…
As pointed out by commenter, 00who1987, even the synopsis of the episode is familiar to the famous Scott Gray-penned serial.
Where the plot of Ground Zero saw The Threshold kidnapping four of the Doctors former companions and using them for the benefit of the Lobri, in The Name of The Doctor someone is stealing the Doctors friends forcing him ‘towards the one place in all of time and space that he should never go.’
While the duplicitous nature of the Doctor has been more evident in the episodes leading up to the climax (particularly in last week’s Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS) leading us to the conclusion that the place the Doctor should never go is the fields of Trenzalore; where no lie can be uttered, but it could just as easily be his own timeline.

And… POTENTIAL SPOILER AHEAD…
Other promises that have been made in the past weeks regarding just what might happen come the end of this series are that we will learn the true identity of Clara, we might learn the Doctor’s greatest secret and that not everyone will make it out alive…
